Ubisoft got it wrong. The company won't stop making AAA games

Ubisoft said in a report to investors that it would shift the focus of the business model. Within a few years, the French will no longer rely on large AAA games as their main source of income, expand their line of shareware projects and will earn money from microtransactions. Many media outlets misunderstood this and came up with headlines like "Ubisoft will stop releasing AAA games . " The company had to explain that this was not the case. In a commentary on Eurogamer's post, the publisher and developer noted that Ubisoft misunderstood.

"Our passion is to deliver a diverse lineup of games that gamers across all platforms will love. We're happy to invest more in shareware projects. However, we would like to point out that this does not mean that we will reduce the number of AAA games. We will continue to release premium games such as Far Cry 6, Rainbow Six Quarantine, Riders Republic and Skull and Bones. In addition, we will expand our portfolio of shareware games to attract even more players."

One of the first major games in the shareware segment will be The Division: Heartland . It will be released at the turn of 2021-2022.
